Every spring, Rome transforms into a global stage for world-class tennis, and 2026 promises to be no exception. The Internazionali BNL d’Italia, one of the most prestigious ATP Masters 1000 events, blends elite competition with the timeless charm of Italy’s capital. Whether you’re a die-hard tennis fan or a curious traveler, this tournament offers an unforgettable experience that goes far beyond the court.
Why ATP Rome 2026 is a Must-See Event
Set against the backdrop of Rome’s historic beauty, the tournament attracts the biggest names in tennis. From intense clay-court rallies to electric night matches, ATP Rome is a key stop on the road to Roland Garros. The atmosphere is vibrant, elegant, and uniquely Italian—where sport, culture, and lifestyle collide.
Expect top-ranked ATP and WTA players battling it out in one of the most scenic venues in the world. The red clay courts add an extra layer of drama, favoring strategic play and endurance. In addition, the last editions of Internazionali BNL d’Italia have never been awaited thanks to Jannik Sinner the best Italian player of all the time and number one of men tennis rankings on the ATP tour.
The venue: a masterpiece in marble
The Internazionali BNL d’Italia tournament is hosted at the Foro Italico, a sports complex that is arguably one of the most beautiful sport places in the world, located just north of Vatican City. Matches are played surrounded by 1930s neoclassical architecture of Carrara marble statues and lush greenery, this venue offers a one-of-a-kind setting for tennis.
• Campo Centrale: The crown jewel. It offers an intimate yet roaring atmosphere where every seat feels close to the action.
• Grand Stand Arena: Located near the Stadio dei Marmi, this court is a fan favorite for its incredible acoustics.
• Stadio Pietrangeli: Often called the “most beautiful court in the world,” it is sunken into the ground and lined with marble statues. Access is usually included with a “Ground” ticket, making it the best value in professional tennis.
The Piazza del Popolo Clay Court
Perhaps the most ‘Instagrammable’ moment of the entire tournament doesn’t happen at the stadium, but in the center of Piazza del Popolo. For a few magic days, a temporary clay court is built right beneath the ancient Egyptian obelisk, framed by the twin churches. Here, you can witness top players practicing or playing exhibition matches just feet away from the crowds. It’s a surreal fusion of ancient architecture and modern sport—a place where the ‘Eternal City’ meets the ‘Sinner Era.’ If you want to feel the true pulse of the city during the tournament, a stroll through this historic square is an absolute must.
